Lisa Carrick, President, is a Certified Public Accountant and senior manager at Windes, Inc., an audit, tax and advisory firm. Her practice focus includes financial statement reporting, evaluation of internal controls and business consulting for privately-held companies and nonprofit organizations. Lisa also provides audit and consulting services to employee benefit plans of private, public, and nonprofit plan sponsors, including 401(k), 403(b), profit-sharing, and ESOPs. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Tony Gales, CFO, is a Certified Public Accountant and Partner at Rossi LLP. Tony has specialized in tax and accounting services for privately held and not-for-profit enterprises. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. His community activities include:
Marc Allmeroth, Esq., Vice President, earned a degree in Political Science at Occidental College where he chaired the County of Los Angeles Commission on Youth, and was appointed by the Long Beach Mayor to the Strategic Planning commission. Marc received his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University and a Certificate in Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. He taught law school and served as assistant dean as he began to build a law practice in Long Beach, now in its 38th year, devoted exclusively to personal injury cases. He was President of the Long Beach Bar Association in 2007 and was named Attorney of the Year in 2012. He has served as President of the Joseph Ball, Clarence Hunt Inn of Court (mentoring young attorneys). This organization has been recognized at the US supreme Court by Associate Justices for excellence (Platinum Status) for several years. Marc was married in Switzerland to Dr. Petra wilder-Smith, an internationally recognized scientist in the field of lasers in medicine and cancer treatment. With their son and daughter, they travel to the Swiss Alps most summers and enjoy hiking and life in the picturesque mountain villages.
Kathie Mais, RN, Secretary, has been with Pediatric Orthopedic Specialty Center at Miller Children's Hospital since 2000 and has worked at Long Beach Memorial since 1983. Kathie has worked in many different aspects of healthcare, from post op surgical nursing to Home Health /Hospice Care. Kathie was presented with the “Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses” in 2013. She has specialized training in all aspects of pediatric orthopedics to include care coordination and works closely with physicians in preparing patients for complex spine and hip surgeries. She is a strong advocate for children with special needs and their families. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 35 years, her three adult children and her dog Morgan. She likes to golf, travel, cheering on UC Berkeley athletics and being with her large extended family. Born and raised in Long Beach, Kathie is committed to serving the Long Beach community by supporting local charities and serving on the Board of the Tichenor Clinic.
Alan Puzarne, Past President, is a seasoned healthcare executive with extensive general management experience. He has held senior level positions within FHP Healthcare and Blue Shield of California. Alan served as the CEO for Cogent Healthcare, a venture funded hospitalist company. As a result of his experience at Cogent, Alan found working with physicians and being closer to patients a positive experience and applied for and was offered a position as COO with Physician Associates of the Greater San Gabriel Valley IPA. After P.A. was sold, Alan was offered a position as COO with Nautilus Healthcare Management Group, a physician management company. In 2011, Nautilus was acquired by the MemorialCare Health System and was incorporated into the MemorialCare Medical Foundation. Alan agreed to stay through the transition and left at the end of 2013. Currently, Alan is providing healthcare consulting services to health systems in the Southern California marketplace. In March 2015, Alan was offered a long-term consulting engagement with Hoag Hospital where he reports to Hoag’s CEO. Alan retired in 2019.
Michele Dobson, Esq. worked for 11 years as a law clerk and project attorney in a small civil practice that served low income and disadvantaged citizens. During law school, she was a substitute teacher in Long Beach Unified School District. She was a law clerk for the Community Legal Services of Los Angeles, for the Domestic Violence Clinic at the Superior Court of California in Norwalk, and for the Honorable David O. Carter, now a Federal Judge. In the spring of 1996, she worked as a Certified Law Clerk for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. She served as a congressional intern in the City of Long Beach, for the United States House of Representatives, and as a District Office Field Representative for the California State Assembly. She began her career as a criminal defense attorney with the Public Defenders' Office and then joined a large, corporate firm in the civil defense area. Ms. Dobson has been in private practice since December of 2006 and is a native of Long Beach, California.
Kerry Driscoll, is a 4th generation owner at Driscoll & Associates Insurance Services, Inc. founded in 1939. He has been an Insurance Advisor since 1997. He is well-versed in insurance coverages and requirements with a strong understanding of insurance as an instrument for asset protection and preservation. He works closely with clients in developing comprehensive protection analysis plans.
Margie Hersh is a realtor and Office Manager at RE/MAX College Park Realty in Los Alamitos. Margie holds a BSBM from the University of Redlands. For over 30 years, she worked as Controller for Cabe Toyota and Ortho Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson Company and was CFO for Bixby Land Company. Margie is a current member and past president of Soroptimist International of Long Beach. Her hobbies include reading, cooking, walking and agility training with her Toy Fox Terrier.
Mariana Leñero Solar is the Founder and Director of Centro Integra, a clinic in Mexico that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of children who have attention, learning, language, emotional, and behavioral problems. She earned a degree in Neurolinguistics and Psychopedagogy in Mexico City and two masters degrees, Applied Linguistics for the Teaching of Spanish as a Second Language and Education of teachers for the teaching of Spanish as a Second language. She is the cofounder of the online website www.activiBox.com that provides activities, videos and strategies to support parents, specialists, teachers and children. She teaches at the college level and now works as an advisor at Learning Rights Law Center, teaching parents about the fundamental aspects of psychometric tests.
Richard Mathis, M.D. worked for 45 years in pediatric gastroenterology. He earned his Medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. He served in the military as a research investigator at the US Army Medical Center Research Institute, in the Infectious Disease Unit, Bethesda, Maryland. He completed a Pediatric Gastrointestinal Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He was an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He taught for 40 years at the University of California, Irvine. He was the Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology/Nutrition at Miller Children’s Hospital and of the Gastroenterology Laboratory at Memorial Medical Center, Long Beach, California for 36 years. He also was a consulting physician on the Pediatric Subspecialty Faculty, Children’s Hospital of Orange County. He has been a member of numerous societies, received many honors, served on many committees, conducted research and published numerous professional articles. Richard retired in December 2018.
Jennifer Moore is the Director of Development for the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Long Beach. Previously, she was the Development Director at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Long Beach specializing in annual funding campaign, major gifts, special events, marketing, cultivation and stewardship. She is the President Elect for the Long Beach Young Professionals with the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Judy Murphy, RN, worked for 45 years in pediatric nursing. She has a BS in Nursing from UCLA and a Public Health Nurse Credential. For fourteen years, Judy worked as a pediatric bedside nurse, unit manager and shift supervisor. Then, she became the manager of the Infant Development Program. In 1990, she created and managed 15 different Pediatric Outpatient Specialty Centers. She served as the Interim Director of Nursing and then as the Program Director, Miller Children’s Hospital. She was responsible for clinical development and oversight of building projects, including the new wing of the Children’s hospital. In 2011, she served as the Interim Executive Director, Patient Care Services Community Hospital of Long Beach where she was responsible for all patient care services, development of committee structure, development and management of a hospital wide capital budget. Judy retired in December 2012 to spend more time with her two children and four grandchildren.
Linda Silver is a retired Healthcare (Imaging) Manager. She graduated from Southern Illinois University with a BS in Health Care Administration. She has been a Long Beach resident since 1992 and has been an active member of the Long Beach Community ever since. She is a current member and past Co-President of American Association of University Women involved in participation and Administration of a six-year mentoring program for at risk middle school girls. She’s an eighteen-year member of the Naple’s Island Garden Club involved in community beautification and Scholarship fundraising. Linda is an Honorary member of the Long Beach Day Nursery where she chaired and participated in many committees for nine years. Linda has been an active member of AbilityFirst Long Beach Center Guild for over five-years serving in various Board roles and is excited to be the incoming President in July.
Melanie Werts, OTR/L graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor degree in occupational therapy. Melanie created a group in Washington, D.C. for treating toddlers with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and worked to support the caregivers for those children. In Long Beach, Werts worked at Long Beach Memorial Hospital for occupational therapy and trained nursing aides on rehabilitation. Then she transitioned to home health agencies in the city. “I liked working one-on-one with a patient, getting to know the family, helping them return home or stay in their home and coming up with creative solutions to the challenges caused by disability,” Werts said in a statement. She is a member of Assistance League of Long Beach, AAUW and the Historical Society of Long Beach and an honorary board member of Long Beach Day Nursery.
